WOW-E Technical Assistance Process

WOW-E takes communities through an evidence based technical assistance process that also ensures the project will be meaningful to the community. Ideally, regardless of working with WOW-E, the process is continuous and builds over time. To learn how to apply for technical assistance, see WOW-E’s FY 2026 TA Cycle.

Assess: WOW-E communities assess their food and physical activity environments through site inventories and assessments, walking audits, chalk and talks, food environment assessments, and more.

Partner: WOW-E communities leverage partnerships to strengthen policies and projects.

Plan: Together through partnerships, systems building, and WOW-E technical assistance, communities identify priorities and plan policies and projects to improve their food and physical activity environments.

Engage: From start to finish community engagement is key to project success.

Implement: Communities take steps to pilot test or put the plans and policies into action.

Evaluate: Communities evaluate their efforts using feedback from the community, assessing what works, monitoring progress, and identifying what could be improved.

What types of projects have WOW-E Communities completed?

To name a few, WOW-E Communities have started StoryWalks™ programs, improved walking and biking infrastructure around schools, parks, and downtown areas, created healthy food policies, and completed communication campaigns to increase park knowledge.
