WOW-E PSE Summit

Attend WOW-E’s PSE Summit on September 10 & 11 in Dallas, Texas (Register by August 8!)

All AgriLife Extension and PVAMU Extension agents and paraprofessionals are invited to participate in WOW-E’s PSE Summit on September 10 and 11 in Dallas, Texas at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Research and Extension Center. At the WOW-E Summit, county agents and paraprofessionals will assess the opportunities and challenges for communities’ food and physical activity environments, explore tools to support communities inventorying and assessing environments, and help communities explore readiness for WOW-E technical assistance opportunities.

Ready to get started? Complete the following:

Complete an easy photovoice activity. This will be part of your registration. Don’t worry, we have step by step instructions, and you’ll enjoy getting to tell your community’s story. You’re welcome to register and complete your photovoice by August 22. Scroll down for instructions. Please note: applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Fill out your registration form to participate in the summit. If you’re ready, you can go ahead and upload your photovoice activity.

Travel support details:

While all agents are eligible to attend and request travel support, travel support priority will go to agents and paraprofessionals in CDC HOP eligible communities.

CDC HOP eligible counties are: Angelina, Bee, Brooks, Cameron, Cherokee, Cochran, Cottle, Culberson, Dawson, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, Falls, Gonzales, Hidalgo, Houston, Hudspeth, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Jones, King, Maverick, Morris, Newton, Presidio, Reeves, San Augustine, San Patricio, Shelby, Starr, Terry, Trinity, Val Verde, Walker, Webb, Wharton, Wilbarger, Willacy, Zapata, and Zavala.

Photovoice instructions:

Take at least one photo (and up to three) for each of the following prompts and write up a description for each photo you submit. We will look at and discuss everyone’s photos at the PSE Summit.

  • Prompt 1: Take a photo that represents the food environment in your community.
  • Prompt 2: Take a photo that represents a typical physical activity environment in your community.
  • Prompt 3: Take a photo of a barrier or opportunity in your community that local partners could make healthier by using PSE (policy, system, environmental change).
  • Prompt 4: Take a photo of a point of joy in your community.

Safety and ethics: please do not take photos including people’s faces unless you have their written permission. Please be sure to be aware of your surroundings while taking photos (don’t walk in front of cars, keep your personal safety in mind). Take photos with both feet on the ground.
